The year that just ended was full of changes for me. The first one is that I went back to school after 5 years away from it. Something new, in total opposite of what I earlier studied in. My early years at school were in Arts, now I'm studying in Secretariat with a major focus on English language. So, since February 21 2011 until June 8 2012, my life status is: School = in progress!
After that, the second huge change that occurred in my life is that I lost the job I've been in for 4 years. Owners of the company closed the 3 centers they had in Canada and they disappeared... Okay, I didn't like that job, but losing it first looked like a tragedy. Then I have thought it was for good since I could, from that very moment, give my all in studying! Positive thoughts, yeah!
Last change, but definitely not least, that happened in 2011 is that I've been connected to Day[9]'s world. That may seem silly for most of the people who know who Day[9] is, but for me, it really was something big. As far as I know that I've been following him since less than a year, I feel like I've been doing so for years! I know what he represents for the SC community, but before that, before everything else, the first thing that has transcended through my computer screen was his energy. Powerful. Positive. Communicative. His humor, his infectious laugh, his true and genuine smile build a sympathetic and friendly aura around him. And when you listen to him, when you pay attention to what he says about his way of life, his thoughts, you definitely think to yourself that he is that kind of person you would love to have as a friend.
Does he talk about Star Craft? Yes, that's what he does, but there's more than that. He talks about an ideal, a mindset that makes you want to be a better person. Many articles on websites or forums talk with a touch of humor of how he is able to lead a massive crowd to do the Fusion Core Dance or how almost instantly a song or a music group become popular because he plays it on his stream. But it's more than only having people following what he does or what kind of music he listens to. He's a leader. He's a positive leader. People follow him not because they are sheep. They follow him because what he says, because what he thinks, make sens for them. The first and probably the most relevant example resides in the 100th episode of his daily show. Ask someone in the SC community about that episode and he or she will tell you that it's THE episode you have to watch.
For those of you, dears readers, who don't know who Day[9] is or what the 100th episode is about, it's mainly him telling the story of how he entered in the Star Craft world, how he went through more than 10 years as a gamer and how his older brother and mother supported him. That's the short version of a wonderful and touching story. I have personally seen it more than 10 times. People who have been gamers for many years tell stories about them feeling the same as him, as if he was telling their stories. I wasn't a gamer myself before 2011. I played Solitaire, Hearts, Tetris, and Super Princess Peach on Nintendo DS, that's it! I wasn't a gamer, I was an artist! I drew, I painted, I wrote poetry. I started playing Star Craft 2 because of him. My friends were into SC2 but I didn't understand what kind of fun they were having at that time. I tried to play with them, but the heart wasn't there. But after I had watched several episodes of Day[9] Daily, I started to understand that there's more than the game itself. I'm not a competitive person in games. The important for me is the fun I can have with friends in games. I always searched for the pleasure I could find in life and the last 9 years taught me the hard way that I was right. I lost my father to a generalized cancer in August 2003. From that moment, more than ever, I've been looking for those tiny moments, those tiny things that were able to bring joy in my life. Day[9] is one of them. He did a special episode in three parts before Christmas; the part 1 and the part 3 were beyond amazing (you really have to watch them if you haven't done it yet!)
